Choosing a good Jiu-Jitsu school is important for your overall learning and growth in the art. The first place you choose can either make Jiu-Jitsu a part of your live forever or just something you would try out briefly in life.

Here are the factors we used to determine if a Jiu-Jitsu school is great to train at or not:

    1. Positive Culture: This is the most important factor for the majority of people training or interested in training Jiu-Jitsu. A good BJJ school should have a positive and supportive culture, where students are respectful and willing to help each other improve. This environment often is created by the instructors and black belts. Look for a school that fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among its members.
    2. Quality of instruction: A good BJJ school should have experienced and knowledgeable instructors who can effectively teach the techniques and principles of BJJ. Look for instructors who have a strong competition record or experience teaching BJJ.
    3. Clean and safe facilities: A good BJJ school should have clean and well-maintained facilities, including the mat area, changing rooms, and other amenities. The school should also have safety protocols in place to prevent injuries and promote a safe training environment.
    4. Curriculum and progression system: A good Jiu-Jitsu school should have some type of curriculum and path for progression. The curriculum should cover all aspects of BJJ, from fundamental techniques to advanced concepts. It does not have to be a written-down curriculum with step-by-step advancement.
    5. Student success: A good BJJ school should have a track record of producing successful students. Look for schools with students who have won tournaments, earned promotions, or achieved other notable accomplishments in BJJ.
    6. Reputation: A good BJJ school should have a positive reputation within the BJJ community. Look for schools that are well-respected by other BJJ schools and practitioners.
